After a successful recovery, your recovered data is copied onto a healthy destination drive and returned to you and returned to you. Your original faulty drive is not returned — here’s why.

Why we don’t return the faulty drive

Data recovery is not a permanent repair. The process brings a failed drive to a temporary functional state — just long enough to image the data off it. After recovery, the original drive is still faulty. It cannot be trusted with data again and has no practical use to the client.

Returning a non-functional drive creates a risk that someone might attempt to reuse it, leading to another failure and another round of data loss. For this reason, we retain the faulty drive after recovery.

What happens to the retained drive?

Faulty drives are retained at our lab for a short period after the job is completed, then securely disposed of. No client data remains accessible after disposal.

Can I request my old drive back?

Yes — if you have a specific reason for needing the original drive (for example, an insurance claim or warranty process), just let us know and we’ll return it to you. Otherwise, we handle the disposal so you don’t need to worry about it.

How long do you keep my recovered data?

We retain your recovered data for a short period after collection or delivery — just long enough to ensure you’ve received everything and had a chance to verify it. After that, all copies are securely deleted from our systems. If you need a specific retention period, let us know and we’ll accommodate it.
